The city of Lerida is located on the banks of the Segre River. The massive citadel hanging over the waters reminds of those times when the Moors owned the Catalan lands. The castle built by order of the Mauritan ruler in 882, after 1149, served as the residence of Catholic monarchs. Stone walls were significantly damaged by the explosions of the ammunition stored here, which took place in 1812 and in 1936, but the fortress of the La Court still remains the hallmark of the city.
