Today’s post is for anyone who may have missed my takeover a few days ago on the @theotherartfair account. I wanted to share a condensed version of what was discussed there. A bit about myself, my practice and some behind the scene details. Perhaps you will learn something new about me 😁
I was born and raised in Detroit, MI, but have been living in Sydney for the last five years. I’ve been doing photography for the last 3 years, part of that time included completing a Masters in Fine Arts. My work is part of my ongoing exploration of urban spaces and the textures, colors and materials that shape them. I capture the details people walk past and use daily but may not consciously take note of while doing so. The hope is that by cutting through the chaos of our urban surroundings and instead presenting them as simplified compositions, will entice people to take a closer look around them and in doing so begin to understand the spaces they interact with more clearly.
Most of my images are taken while I travel and are of places I have never been or have only visited a few times. While exploring I act as a modern day flaneur wandering in no particular direction for normally eight hours a day, using the camera as my tool to record what I pass by.
The kit I use is very small, all I carry is my #sonyalpha A7rIII and a 70-200mm lens. I also recently got the @hasselblad X1D and use the 45mm lens. Both fit nicely in my @peakdesign shoulder bag. -

After a long trip of shooting I usually end up with thousands of photos. When getting ready to post on IG or an exhibition, I comb through my archives to find the ones I like best. Once finished the next step when prepping a show is to make small proof prints. I’ll then mix and match those around until an intriguing combination of images is discovered. When finally ready to print I leave this to my trusted printers @thirdsfineartprinting.
Let me know if you enjoyed getting to know a bit more about me. 😊
