You’re not just gonna keep scrolling and not double tap to boop and say hi, are you?? 👆🏽 Important info: renowned marine megafauna photographer @simonjpierce calls fur seals “sea floofs” and if that’s not one of the best phrases you’ve ever heard, we don’t know what to tell you 🤷♀️
Found a huge mess of fishing line tangled around logs and other debris on a beach that has plenty of cacti. This means picking out the really big thorns before being able remove it - an unexpected quiet moment, which lead to some thoughts… .
Finding such fishing line on the beach in such a tangle really drives the urgency of what we are doing, as a collective, home. It took me a good 15 minutes to free the line up, this is me using two hands and ten fingers, an advantage that our marine animals do not have. .
Aquatic life stands zero chance when faced with such manmade carelessly tossed trash. It’s not fair, it’s not right and it's utterly disrespectful to endanger the lives of creatures in this manner. Fishing, fine… you catch the fish and then eat it, even with living a plant-based lifestyle, I can understand it. But this, this just kills fish by entanglement and strangulation because of one persons neglect. .
The real kicker is that this is just one piece of line on one stretch of strand, the ocean is full of this mess. It goes further much further, it’s not just fishing line, it’s aluminium foil, bags, balls, batteries, barrels, bottles, buckets, cans, clothing, cups, crates, cigarette butts, cigarette cartons, foam containers, flip-flops, forks, food wrappers, glasses, hooks, inner tubes, juice boxes, jugs, knives, light bulbs, micro plastics, metal bottle caps, nets, plastic food containers, plastic bottles, plastic bottle caps, plastic bags, rope, spoons, syringes, shoes, slippers, sacks, straws, stirrers, styrofoam, q-tips, tampons, toys, tyres, toilet seats, umbrellas, zipties… the list of carelessly tossed items is endless… .
All I can say, is thank heavens for all of you, all over the world, for picking what you can, when you can, where you can. What you do is incredible and so very, very necessary. .

Very, very impressed and incredibly proud of St Issey Church of England Primary School who turned out tonight at the Padstow Christmas Lantern Parade!
They have spent the last couple of weeks making lanterns, including a MASSIVE fish with our logo on it along with the following message:
"The Rainbow Fish and his Jelly Friends Supporting Beach Guardian".
Here's a video for everyone to see. Thankyou to all the pupils, parents and teachers for their hard work. And very well done to all of the other local schools who came and had a really great evening; all of the lanterns were incredible.
*Don’t cry, don’t cry, don’t cry*.
I had this moment a while ago where I was watching Blue Planet, and kept looking at my fish like he got seriously screwed. But I like to think I saved him from dying in a jar at a pet store.
