Of particular interest are “natural” thermal compensating gaps in the form of cracks, excess and cracks, spontaneously formed in the masonry during drying and subsequent pumping of clay materials. A layer of raw clay laid on the substrate, when drying, gives a shrinkage and at the same time either cracked on a substrate with high adhesion and a thin layer, or exfoliates from the substrate with weak adhesion and a thick layer.
